Challenges in Modern Meetings

  • Today, it's a struggle to find a common time in all required participants' calendars
  • Most meetings happen without a proper agenda, leading to low productivity
  • Tasks allocation and follow-up are not clearly defined
  • Meeting Notes are not fully captured, and some important points are lost with error
  • Participants are not clear about their deliverables and deadlines
  • Most people agree to a time, not knowing they have earlier appointments

Running successful hybrid meetings demands meeting leadership and facilitation expertise. Moderators/facilitators or meeting owners must facilitate the conversation so everyone feels included, engaged, and focused.

According to HR Digest, professionals lose 31 hours of productivity in meetings every month. This translates to an estimated cost of $37 billion a year in the US alone.

Researchers at Harvard Business School surveyed 182 senior managers in various industries:

  • 65% said meetings keep them from completing their work
  • 71% said meetings are unproductive and inefficient
  • 64% said meetings come at the expense of deep thinking

Most people attend meetings without knowing the agenda or whether they are needed. Some are frequently pulled into meetings at the last minute or have their calendars adjusted based on availability.
